VIRGINIA HEFFERNAN writes "The Medium," a weekly column about Internet culture, for The New York Times Magazine. Before starting "The Medium" in 2007, she served for four years as a daily television critic for The Times, where she also chronicled the convergence of television and the Internet in Screens, one of the first blogs on the Times's Web site. She has also contributed to The New Yorker, Slate, Mother Jones and many other publications. She is the author, with Mike Albo, of the comic novel The Underminer, and her work has been widely anthologized. In 2002, she received a Ph.D. in English and American Literature from Harvard.
