CHRISTIAN KEYSERS, born in 1973 in Belgium, studied psychology and biology in Germany and in Boston, Massachusetts. He obtained a Ph.D. in neuroscience at the University of St Andrews, U.K., in 2000 and then worked in Parma, Italy, where he contributed to the discovery of auditory mirror neurons and enlarged the concept of mirror neurons by applying it to emotions and sensations. He is the scientific director of the Neuroimaging Center of the University Medical Center Groningen, the Netherlands, where he is full professor of the social brain. He has received the Marie Curie Excellence Award of the European Commission and is associate editor of the journal Social Neuroscience.
