CHRISTIAN KEYSERS, born in 1973 in Belgium, studied psychology and biology in Germany and in Boston, Massachusetts. He obtained a Ph.D. in neuroscience at the University of St Andrews, U.K., in 2000 and then worked in Parma, Italy, where he contributed to the discovery of auditory mirror neurons and enlarged the concept of mirror neurons by applying it to emotions and sensations.
He is a full professor of the social brain at the University of Groningen and University Medical Center Groningen. Together with his wife, he is the director of the Social Brain Lab at the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience of the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences in Amsterdam.
He is the author of The Empathic Brain.
