Nathan Wolfe

NATHAN WOLFE is the Lorry Lokey Visiting Professor of Human Biology at Stanford University and directs the Global Viral Forecasting Initiative (www.gvfi.org). He received his doctorate in immunology and infectious diseases from Harvard University in 1998. Wolfe’s research combines methods from molecular virology, ecology, evolutionary biology, and anthropology to study the biology of viral emergence. He was awarded the National Institutes of Health Director’s Pioneer Award in 2005 to work in regions of high biodiversity with subsistence hunters, who collaborate with him in the establishment of a sentinel/surveillance system to monitor the spillover of novel viruses into the human species..
